PhD and Postdoc Position at Missouri University of Science and Technology

Position Details:
 

1. Postdoctoral Fellow Position:
- Institution: Missouri University of Science and Technology (Missouri S&T)
- Area: Rock Mechanics
- Geomechanics Laboratory
- Focus areas: Field and laboratory characterization of geomaterials and rock masses, instrumentation design, instrumentation and analysis of rock engineering sites, numerical modeling of underground excavations and rock slopes
- Active collaborations with industry, universities, and government research agencies
- Expected starting date: June 15, 2023
- Appointment duration: One year with possibility of extension based on performance and funding availability

Minimum Qualifications:
- Ph.D. degree in a related field (mining engineering, civil engineering, geological engineering, petroleum engineering, or other related fields) focusing on rock mechanics
- Experience in developing numerical models using 3D finite difference, distinct element, finite element, and Lattice Boltzmann methods
- Experience with preparation and laboratory testing of rock samples
- Excellent written and communication skills with a record of peer-reviewed publications and oral presentations at conferences and meetings
- Experience in proposal and technical report preparation

Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in numerical modeling and laboratory/field testing of geomaterials under high strain-rate loading conditions or simulation of hypervelocity impacts or prior research experience in underground geologic storage of hydrogen
- Excellent computer programming skills (C++ and Python)
- Experience with constitutive model development
