Dr. Da Chen:

PhD Recruitment with full scholarship @ UNSW Sydney @ Australian Composites Manufacturing CRC (Qualified candidates residing in Australia are encouraged to apply)

This project is under Australian Composites Manufacturing CRC (Cooperative Research Centre, acmcrc.com), and is aimed to address the unmet need for a small-footprint travel surfboard that offers enhanced durability, performance, and sustainability. The candidate will work closely with industrial partners and academics from different Universities/Schools, and conduct interdisciplinary research on the design and manufacturing of a premium travel surfboard made of recyclable composite materials for domestic and international markets. The success of this project will bring the candidate 1) exceptional research achievements; 2) wide industrial and academic connections; 3) a great career path as a composite engineer/researcher in mechanical, material, aerospace, and civil engineering.

About Australian Composites Manufacturing CRC: The $100 billion international composites industry will undergo a major automation transition. Australia will need to reposition its manufacturing and sovereign engineering capability to capture emergent markets. We plan to maximise Australia’s sovereign capability for a global turning point. Our 10-year program seeks to build a digital-export-ready composites industry with cost-competitive, high-quality platform capability. We’re creating this capability via intelligent automation, technology innovation and new product demonstration, while qualifying Australia’s next generation of composites engineers. Through our four research programs, our key goals are to de-risk investment in hydrogen economy and electric vehicle (EV) production industries, while simultaneously strengthening the infrastructure, space, defence, circular economy and consumer industries. In delivering our outputs, we will create education opportunities for HDR students and seek to achieve gender equity and inclusion in the industry.

Essential criteria:

1. Bachelor or Master degree in Mechanical, Material, or Civil Engineering;

2. Minimum GPA of 80/100;

3. Sufficient knowledge in composite materials and structures, and FEA or CFD simulation;

4. Abilities to work in a team and to communicate effectively with industrial and research partners;

5. For international applicants, meeting the English language test requirements.

Funding Type: Living Allowance & Tuition Fees.
