Title: Polymeric materials with memory functions
PhD locations: Lille University, UMET laboratory, ISP team, 59655 Villeneuve d'Ascq and Ghent University, Supramolecular Chemistry group, Centre of Macromolecular Chemistry (CMaC).
PhD Directors: Pr. Patrice Woisel (Lille University) and Pr. Richard
Hoogenboom (Ghent University)
Project description: The demand for polymeric materials that can store their physical and physicochemistry state at a given time and provide access to this information at a later time has increased enormously. The main aim of this thesis will be to develop new intelligent polymeric materials with memory functions. In particular, materials combining dynamic supramolecular interactions and stimuli-responsive polymers will be created and exploited as sensors capable of memorizing physicochemical solicitations to which they were subjected This joint PhD position is available in the ISP team (Lille University) and the Supramolecular Chemistry Group (Ghent University). Both groups interact closely in the research mentioned above, and the PhD student will be allowed to work in both laboratories.
Requirements: To apply for this PhD position, candidates must have completed a Research Master (or an equivalent 2-year MSc) degree. Candidates should have a solid scientific background in polymer science and physicochemistry. A good experience in synthetic polymer and organic chemistry is required.
The working language is English.
Duration: 4 years
Applications: If you are interested, please email a motivation letter including your interests in the research area, one or two references, your academic transcripts and a CV including your research experience to Pr. P. Woisel (patrice.woisel@centralelille.fr), Dr. G. Le Fer (gaelle.lefer@univ-lille.fr) and Pr.
R. Hoogenboom (richard.hoogenboom@ugent.be)
