Postdoctoral Position: Investigating Climate Change Impacts on Groundwater

- Organization: Department of Civil & Resource Engineering and Centre for Water Resources Studies, Dalhousie University, Canada
- Duration: Two-year postdoctoral researcher position
- Focus: Investigating the impacts of climate change on shallow groundwater in Nova Scotia, Canada

- Project Description: Addressing the impacts of oceanic and atmospheric climate change on groundwater resources in Nova Scotia, with a focus on communities experiencing groundwater shortages during summer droughts
- Project Objectives:
  - Develop a 1D hydrologic/hydrogeologic model to simulate impacts of changing atmospheric conditions on snow-rain partitioning, frozen ground conditions, mid-winter melts, infiltration, and groundwater recharge
  - Calibrate the model at multiple sites using provincial observation well network and streamflow data
  - Assess impacts of future change by forcing the model with downscaled climate scenarios
  - Create GIS products (e.g., ArcGIS StoryMaps or Google Earth Engine) in collaboration with GIS specialists to visualize changing recharge
  - Collaborate with team members working on sea-level rise impacts on saltwater intrusion and septic system inundation
- Outputs: New vulnerability assessments for Nova Scotia's groundwater resources
- Required Skills and Qualifications:
  - Experience with 1D hydrologic or hydrogeologic models (e.g., SHAW model)
  - Excellent communication skills
  - PhD in geoscience, civil engineering, or related field
  - Coding experience
  - Team-oriented approach to research and community partnership
  - Track record in leading high-quality journal articles
  - Research expertise in climate change impacts on groundwater (asset)
- Location: Based at the Dalhousie Coastal Hydrology Lab in Halifax, Nova Scotia
- Synergy: Collaborative engagement with members of the Centre for Water Resources Studies
